This week, Coulter Press and The Item announced Publisher Gary Hutner will be leaving the company April 3.
Hutner first came to Coulter Press in 1988 as editor of the Leominster Pioneer. Soon after, he became a reporter for the then-Daily Item and then became news editor of that publication. He left to become publisher of the Idyllwild (Ca.) Town Crier in 1992, but returned in 2000 as publisher of the Coulter Press. At the time, Coulter was owned by the New York Times Company. Hutner has led the company through numerous corporate ownership changes. Last November, Gatehouse Media, the current owner, and Gannett merged. Hutner has also been working in Gardner since April 2018 as general manager of the Gardner News.
