It made national news a few weeks ago that three newspapers in North Dakota, owned by Salem, Ore.-based owner Country Media Inc., were closing and would not be reopening. StateofNewspapers has just learned that two of those papers, The Herald in New England and the Adams County Record, will be publishing issues under new local owner Jill Binfet Friesz this week.
Word is getting out, as The Bismarck Tribune ran a story this morning of the ownership change:
In that story, Friesz is quoted:
““Steve Andrist, the executive director of the North Dakota Newspaper Association, reached out to me last Monday afternoon and told me that those papers were closing as of Friday,” Friesz said. “He kind of put a bug in my ear that maybe that would be a great opportunity for me to grow a little bit and take care of those communities.””
