Betty Finney Kennedy was born with a great curiosity and deep love of people that made her a natural fit for the newspaper business.
The Columbia native and wife of former Daily Herald publisher Sam Kennedy died Tuesday morning at her home on Mapleash Avenue. She was 89. Born Elizabeth Ridley Finney, her many friends affectionately called her “Betty.”
“She had a genuine interest in everyone she met and wanted them to be successful,” her daughter, Elizabeth Kennedy Blackstone, recalled Tuesday. “She was endlessly fascinated with people and their stories.”
