CNHI LLC, the parent company of Herald Banner Publications, has been acquired by the Retirement Systems of Alabama, officials announced Wednesday.
CNHI, based in Montgomery, Alabama, is made up of more than 100 local newspapers and websites in 22 states, including 68 dailies and more than 40 non-dailies.
Prior to being acquired by Raycom Media Inc. in the fall of 2017, CNHI had operated with RSA as its creditor. Raycom, which operates television stations in 65 markets, announced in June 2018 that it had accepted a purchase offer by Gray Television, and that as part of their merger agreement, the CNHI division would be sold.
Details of the CNHI acquisition were not disclosed.
