Westword on Denver Post: “They’ve Killed a Great Newspaper”

 | MAY 7, 2018

On Friday, May 4, Dean Singleton, who owned the Denver Post from 1987 to 2013, resigned as the newspaper’s chairman and also left his position on the editorial board. In a wide-ranging conversation with Westword, Singleton speaks with great candor about the reasons for his decision and his frustration with Digital First Media, which merged with his MediaNews Group company five years ago, and New York-based Alden Global Capital, the hedge fund that controls DFM and has regularly demanded dramatic newsroom staff cuts at the Post and its other properties in order to maintain a fat profit margin.

“They’ve killed a great newspaper,” Singleton says.
